Day 5

Read Ephesians 4:31-32 NLT

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Life does not always happen the way we think it will.  Sometimes it rushes in like the tide, knocking us over and sweeping us out into deep waters.  Harsh words, betrayal, unexpected illness, financial difficulty… and so many other hardships seem to have the power to push us farther and farther from the shore and force us to tread water in fear and anger. We hold on to that fear and anger and feel entitled to the bitterness and resentment that comes right along with it.  But the truth is that holding on to bitterness and hurt is like trying to tread water with fifty-pound weights strapped to your hands.  You might be able to do it for a short while, but it will tire you out quickly and ultimately drag you under.

In those deep water moments, what we need most is forgiveness.  To let go of the heavy stuff and allow Jesus to carry it.   Don’t allow anger, bitterness, or resentment to drag you down.

In forgiveness, there is release.  In forgiveness, you will find freedom.
