Read Ephesians 6:13-17 NIV

”Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.“

I watched a news segment this week in preparation for the Super Bowl that detailed newly developed helmets that would make their debut in the big game. These specially designed helmets are the latest in technology intended to help keep quarterbacks safe considering the specific types of hits and injuries they typically receive in the course of a game. It was pretty interesting. The new designs and technology aren’t intended to be exclusively used by professional athletes, but should trickle down to colleges and high schools, also providing  hope for making the game safer for everyone.

Protection in a football game is necessary. We would think athletes crazy if they were to not strap on pads and helmets and step onto the field to play. Injuries would be a certainty.

But in our lives we often head out into the world neglecting to protect ourselves well from all the things Satan might throw at us. Today’s verses are a great reminder of how important it is to carry with us the tools that God has given us to protect our hearts and our minds.

As you go into your day today, take some time to intentionally invite God into your day.  Invite the truth of His Word to go with you, to guard your heart and your mind, to help you bring peace wherever you go, and to allow faith in a good and loving God to carry you through in power and in strength.
