Daily Devotionals

A football coach once needed to redirect a group of middle school boys who were upset about losing. They were complaining about the other team and the unfair referee calls. He knew he needed to get the boys to stop complaining, remember the rules of the game, focus on their strengths, and carry out what they had learned in practice. He made eye contact with each one and simply said, “Let your game do the talking.” My oldest son has always remembered this. He was not the strongest player, but he had a passion for football. These few words helped him to refocus and concentrate on the game instead of being distracted by the difficulties. He could focus on what he knew to be true: his skills, the rules, and the plays. This team of boys did not win this particular game, but they learned an important life lesson: actions speak louder than words.

I believe that God is our coach and speaks those same words to us. He encourages us to have faith. He wants us to truly believe in who He is and who we are in Him. He desires for us to focus on Him, who He created us to be, and not be distracted by all the negativity of this world. He wants us to focus on His truth and live life according to His playbook and His rules. He wants us to know that we may not always win, but we are always loved and accepted by Him, and that He is faithful.

Read Colossians 2:6-7

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Living a life of faith is proof that you truly believe in God and that will lead to actions of love, compassion, and obedience. How will you let your faith do the talking today?
