”Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.“
Today we will see fans of all sorts across our television screens and, perhaps, seated in our living rooms. I always smile when I see fans with brightly painted faces or crazy costumes. Don’t forget the signs, flags and loud cheers and chants! Their team spirit is on display for everyone to see. There is no way to mistake who they are rooting for.
When it comes to sporting events, it feels pretty easy to let people in on who we are cheering for. I have a Bills shirt, a Syracuse sweatshirt, and my favorite, a Brett Gardner Yankees jersey – all of which I am proud to wear to support my favorite teams. Choosing a sports team to cheer for is one thing, but what about in life? What are you a fan of? Maybe a better question is WHO are you a fan of?
The Church’s answer should be Jesus. But would the world around us know that by watching us and listening to us? Would our love for God be as evident as a brightly painted face?
Let’s begin the week refocusing ourselves on the One who deserves all of our attention.
Lord, let the words of our verse today be the cry of our hearts. Help us to be bold in sharing our love for You – and let it change us. May there be no mistaking who we are surrendered to and let the evidence of Your greatness and Your love be shown in our words and our actions. Amen.
