Read:
Isaiah 49:15-16. “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”
God will not forget you.
Maybe you have felt forgotten by the ones closest to you. It’s a terrible feeling that can leave you confused, lost and alone.
In this verse, Isaiah uses the image of a mother as an illustration of the care that God takes with us.
While it is highly unlikely that a mother would not have compassion for her own baby, God will NEVER forget you.
“In verse 16, God says, “Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.” The “walls” are a reference to the broken-down walls of Jerusalem while the Jews were in exile in Babylon. God is saying: “I see your life; I know exactly what is going on in your life. I am fully aware of the challenges and the difficulties that you are facing, and I will not forget you.” Steffen Mueller, Ligonier.org, “Engraved on God’s Hands”
God sealed this promise with Jesus’ sacrifice and triumphant return.
Isaiah’s mention of “engraved palms” is a prophetic reference to the wounds of Jesus, which Jesus presented to Thomas as proof that he was who he said he was:
“Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”” John 20:27
If you feel lonely, if you have been deserted by someone close to you, remember this promise: God will not forget you. Seek Him and you will find him.
If you know someone who is alone or abandoned, God could be calling you to serve Him. Seek Him and serve Him by serving someone else for His glory.
Pray: “God thank you for your promise that you will not forget us! I pray that you will help me see clearly those you’ve placed in my life and how I might minister to them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
