Read – Psalm 95:6 – Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
Bowing and kneeling seems foreign to us, native democrats. The idea of a king is suspicious and maybe even a bit threatening. We know, looking back through history, that even the best of kings only lives so long before he is replaced or killed by a tyrannical one. American democracy feels right and correct when we compare it to the evil regimes that have flourished under monarchies and dictatorships.
But, as Christians, we know that even the most perfect democracy is only a temporary stewardship until the true, good, and everlasting King comes to reclaim His kingdom. Scripture tells us that every knee shall bow before Him, that even nature and death itself will yield before His might. Whether our knee is lowered in worship or in terror, it is the only reponse when faced with our Maker.
