The words of the reckless pierce like swords,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Gracious Father,
I ask for Your wisdom. There have been times when I have been reckless with my words and the hurt they have caused is deep and lasting. I am sorry for the times I have rushed to judgment and dashed to speak. Help me to take my thoughts and my words captive (2 Corinthians 10:3-5) and instead of rushing in, be quick to listen – slow to speak – and slow to get angry (James 1:19). Let the words that I speak be intentional and encouraging. Keep me from careless babble and help me surrender to your will so that my words offer healing instead of hurt. Amen.
