Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.” After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.”
In this passage, Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah are now facing the formidable army that we read about yesterday. They have turned to God for guidance, and they’ve received a message from the prophet Jahaziel. (2 Chronicles 20:14-17)
Jehoshaphat’s words “Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld” emphasize the importance of trusting in God’s guidance. When facing challenges, placing our faith in God’s plan and wisdom is key to overcoming them.
And even in the face of battle against all odds, Jehoshaphat sends men out to the front of the army to sing ““Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever”, turning the focus from the enemy or the battle to a focus on God.
How can we change the focus on the problems in our lives to a focus on God?
Pray: “Lord Jesus, open my eyes to the relationships around me, and to Your presence in, and plan for, my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
