True submission to God means understanding who we are and who He is. God is looking at us and asking us to look back at Him. We might try to throw up obstacles in the way of His penetrating, perfect vision, but He can see through every excuse: the devil, those people over there, our own sense of independence. Eventually our eyes will meet, whether we lift our gaze to meet His in submission or defiance. “Every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10-11
Prayer: Almighty God, You are the creator, the king, and the judge of the universe. We are brief and frail, put upon this earth to work Your purpose. Remind us daily to serve and honor You about ourselves. Help us submit to Your perfect will and to master our selfish desires. Let us work towards peace with each other and the justice that comes from relinquishing our independence to You. Amen.
