Each week of devotions throughout our Live Worthy series on Ephesians will be spent on a single chapter. We encourage you to re-read the chapter each day. Additionally, we will focus on a few key verses each day. This week, we will focus on chapter 6 of Ephesians
Read Ephesians 6
Read: Ephesians 6:5-9 “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.”
While this passage uses the historical context of slavery, its principles are timeless and applicable to our modern lives, especially in the workplace. Paul is teaching us that our work is an act of worship. Whether we are an employee or a manager, we are called to serve with a sincere heart, as if we are serving Christ Himself. Our motivation should not be to please people, but to honor God. This perspective transforms our daily tasks, giving them eternal significance and reminding us that God sees our every effort.
Pray: Lord, thank you for the work you’ve given me to do. Help me to serve with sincerity and integrity, as if I am serving you directly. Give me a heart to work wholeheartedly and to treat others with fairness and respect. Amen.
