Each week of devotions throughout our Live Worthy series on Ephesians will be spent on a single chapter. We encourage you to re-read the chapter each day. Additionally, we will focus on a few key verses each day. This week, we will focus on chapter 5 of Ephesians
Read Ephesians 5
Purity in Conduct
“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them.” Ephesians 5:3-7
Love without holiness is incomplete.
Paul warns against sexual immorality, greed, and crude speech because these are rooted in self-centeredness and idolatry. They distort God’s design and harm our witness.
Patterns like this are not simply bad habits — they belong to the old life that Christ died to put to death.
Instead, our speech should be filled with thanksgiving, which shifts our focus from self to God. Paul’s sobering reminder is that those who cling to these sins place themselves outside God’s kingdom blessings. The call is not to perfection by our own strength, but to live set apart through the Spirit’s transforming power.
Question to Ponder: What habits or words in my life need to be surrendered so they reflect God’s holiness?
