Read Ephesians 2:8-9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

The definition of grace is unmerited favor.  It is favor granted to us based on God’s love for us alone.  There is nothing you or I can do to earn or deserve it.  There are days when this is a tough thing for me to grasp.  Surely there must be something God wants me to do to earn his love and forgiveness, right?  I am used to working for what I get.  Put in the effort and you get great returns.  That is largely the way our world works.

But when Jesus arrived on the scene 2000 years ago, he taught this upside down kind of theology where leaders are servants, enemies are loved and forgiveness is offered freely without a catch for those who would believe in Him.  Pure grace offered out of pure love for all of God’s children.  No earning or striving necessary.  What a beautiful gift!

Spend some time today thanking God for His amazing, matchless gift.  Thank Him that your salvation is only through Him – based on His love and untouched by your imperfections.
