When we buy seeds at the store, we have no idea how much or how little food they are going to produce. We plant the seeds, we water them, and then we wait. In fact, we spend most of our time waiting…and we get results! How can this be? Because God is in control of life, growth, and even death.
Jesus makes specific reference to the mustard seed in Mark 4:31 to explain what the kingdom of God is like: “It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
All we have to do is plant the seeds and trust God; He is able to do immeasurably more – exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or imagine, according to his power at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20)
Imagine what God can do with your mustard seed faith!
Dear God, Thank You for taking what little faith we have and helping us to grow. Just like the tiny mustard seed, our minimal faith has great potential with You as our source. Through Your Word, our prayers, and community, we are well-equipped to remain rooted to You. You are the source of our growth, as You provide all we need to fully develop into the people You have created us to be. Amen
