Read John 20-21

Thomas, one of Jesus’ disciples, was not with the others when Jesus came to visit after His resurrection. The disciples told Thomas they had seen the Lord, but Thomas had his doubts. Thomas needed proof, declaring “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my fingers where the nails were, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” (John 20:25)

Although Jesus was not physically there to hear this, He clearly heard Thomas’ need for proof. This was honored a week later when Jesus came again and told Thomas, “Put your finger here: see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Stop doubting and believe!” (John 20:27)

None of us have seen the scars like Thomas did. We have not placed our fingers in His hands, nor have we placed a hand in His side. Jesus recognizes the importance of providing proof and acknowledges the faith it takes to believe. He says, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet believed.” (John 20:29) Believing requires trust and having faith in the things we have not seen. What is something you are struggling to trust God with? How will you get past your unbelief?

Let us come to Jesus in prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for knowing our every need and desire. Even when we express our doubts and worries, You are there to comfort and reassure us. Help us to be patient as we wait for the proof of Your plans trusting that You are working all things for the good of those who love You. We love You and are grateful for the many ways You take care of our every need. In Jesus name, Amen
