So God created human beings in his own likeness. He created them to be like himself. He created them as male and female.
My husband and I were blessed to become grandparents this year. What an amazing thing it is to be a grandparent! I have loved watching my granddaughter’s little personality begin to emerge. She is smart and inquisitive like her Mama was and she is constantly on the go like her Daddy. I see her Mama in her eyes and I catch a glimpse of her Daddy when she scrunches up her nose and smiles. She is turning out to be a great mix of both her parents and a great source of joy to her grandparents. Having raised her Mama, it’s not hard to see how our sweet granddaughter is like her mom in both resemblance and personality. I love watching them together and I think that seeing a bit of our own daughter in our granddaughter makes the time we spend with her even more special. Our granddaughter is a continuation of a generational story of love and she kindles up this kind of pride in me that is hard to put into words.
I think that is a little glimpse of how God feels about us. Our verse today reminds us that each of us are created in the image of our Heavenly Father. Some of us have a bit of His compassion. Some of us have a tendency to resemble His grace. Others are blessed with His wisdom or His generous heart. I can’t help thinking that as God sees glimpses of Himself rise to the surface in us as we go about life, that He too is reminded of the generational love story He is writing in our lives and a pride fills His heart that is hard to describe.
Each time I look at my daughter and my granddaughter, I am reminded just how precious they are to me. They are part of me. Maybe today you need to be reminded of just how precious you are. Or maybe you need the reminder that that guy who just cut you off…well, he’s precious too (and not in a sarcastic way!). That cashier at the coffee shop, the homeless guy living in his car, the child laborer…all so precious to God. We are all a part of Him. Created to be like Him. If we take the time to look closer at the people around us today – maybe we can see the family resemblance in them too.
