Read John 17
How did Jesus get through all the things he did in His life? His life was not His own. He believed in the Father. He trusted the Father. He prayed to the Father. He had a personal relationship with His Father. Jesus was in constant, continuous communication with hIs Father. Because of this He knew what to do and was given the strength to do it. He knew that whatever He asked for, He would be given. Before His arrest and crucifixion, Jesus spent time with His Father…and He prayed!
John Chapter 17 in my Bible consists of the 3 subheadings: Jesus prays to be glorified, Jesus prays for his disciples and Jesus prayers for all believers.
This entire Chapter is written in red, indicating these are words spoken by Jesus himself. It is a continuous prayer. Jesus prays with gratitude for His relationship with His Father and looks forward to returning to a life with Him. He is grateful to have come to serve, but is ready to return home to His Father. Jesus prays for His disciples. He is grateful for the relationships with these twelve men. He prays for God to protect them. He prays for them to know the truth of God’s Word. Jesus prays for all believers. He prays for believers to spread the Word and share joy in knowing God and having a personal relationship with Him. He prays for believers to create more believers. I pray this prayer for you & me today!
Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for being a living example to all of us of a God who loves us, who protects us, and who cares for us. Help us to believe and to share the truth of the gospel with others. Create in us a serving heart to be obedient to the will of God and His plans. In Your precious name, Amen
