God’s Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways. And because we belong to Christ Jesus, we have killed our selfish feelings and desires. God’s Spirit has given us life, and so we should follow the Spirit.
One of the ways we can hear from God is through the Holy Spirit. The evidence of the Holy Spirit’s presence shows up in the way we live our lives. As the Holy Spirit works in us, He produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – all characteristics of Jesus.
No matter what decisions we make in a day – we can’t go wrong if we exhibit peace, patience, goodness, love…all those fruits of the spirit. So, a good question to ask ourselves when we are faced with choices or direction for our lives is, “Will it make me more like Jesus?” Will moving in that particular direction produce more of the fruit of the Spirit in me?
Take the time today to ask yourself those questions. The Holy Spirit will never steer us wrong.
