You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
In the movie Message in a Bottle, a reporter is strolling along the ocean and finds a love letter in a bottle. It becomes the reporter’s mission to discover who the author of the letter is. She learns that the author was unable to express his grief after the loss of his wife. Later he writes another letter to his wife and again places it in a bottle. His method of expressing his pain and love was placed so tenderly in a bottle.
When King David wrote the Psalms he was in great distress. His enemies were plotting to kill him, causing him to continually seek out safe havens. His fear was overwhelming. That fear, however, increased his dependence on God. He was confident God was with him and would ultimately deliver him from the evil lurking around him.
Like David, we too can take refuge in God. We can be confident He knows our struggles. He even keeps track of each and every tear and none will be forgotten. They matter so much that He is collecting. As we face trials in life let’s not allow the emotion to well up inside us, but instead allow God to wipe our tears, take on our sorrow, and place it tenderly in His bottle.
