Read Isaiah 6:8 NLTThen I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

Isaiah’s willing response to serve God is so simple and beautiful that we often quote those words “Here I am. Send me.” as our prayer to live out God’s will. And let’s be honest, the message that we can share with others is a lot more hopeful than the one God gave to Isaiah. The prophets of the Old Testament were sent by God to tell His people of their wrongdoing. Sometimes they were sent to avert disaster. Sometimes they were sent simply to proclaim that disaster was coming no matter what. Prophets were rarely popular.

Isaiah was sent to share God’s anger. He was sent to tell Judah that they no longer had a seat at The Table. We have a more hopeful message. We have been sent to share God’s love and forgiveness. Through Jesus’s sacrifice, we have all been invited to The Table once more! Let us use Isaiah’s words in response to God’s question: “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”
