Daily Devotional
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
Communication is an important part of our lives and our relationships. Like me, you probably have different styles and different ways you communicate based on the nature of those relationships. For example, my primary mode of communication with my husband is face to face conversation. We are in close proximity to each other – so that just makes sense. My family lives in several different states so video messaging has become our go to mode of communication. My colleagues at work use text, email, and a shared virtual workspace to stay connected and work together to accomplish tasks. We have a lot of different tools at our disposal to communicate our thoughts and ideas with each other. The same can be true spiritually. When we want to communicate with God we can pray and we can worship to express to God what we are thinking and feeling. When God wants to communicate with us, one of the primary ways He does so is through His Word.
Even though the Bible was written thousands of years ago, it is filled with wisdom and insight for today. I love the verse in Hebrews today that reminds us that the Word of God is alive and powerful. God intended for His Word to be a tool to communicate His love and direction for every season of our lives. The key is that we have to be intentional about using that tool to know God’s heart and His will for our lives. We have to seek it out not simply for information – but transformation!
This week, I want to challenge you to dig into God’s Word with the intent of hearing from Him. Not as a task to check off your list…but because you want to hear God’s voice for your life as you live it right now.
