Thank you for joining us as we have worked our way through the book of Revelation. As Pastor David continues to help us unpack the rest of the book, we are going to turn our attention in our daily devotions to the different themes found in John’s writing. For the next week, we’ll dive into themes in the book of Revelation and explore how they align with the rest of Scripture.
This week’s theme: The New Creation
Looking forward to the renewal of all things and dwelling eternally in God’s presence.
Day 6: No More Tears
Read Revelation 21:1-5
1Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
There are days when the promise of no more pain – physical, emotional, or otherwise – feels so unrealistic. All I know is a world riddled with pain of one kind or another. It is hard to fathom the joy and the peace that a world with no pain might offer us, so even though I find it hard to wrap my head around it, man, do I hope for it!
Father God,
Thank you for the hope that comes from knowing that the place you have prepared for me is perfect. When my days seem more than I can handle and grief and sadness threaten to overwhelm me, remind me of the promises of your love. Give me your love to hold onto in hope. Help me to continue to trust you in the hard places of my life, and remind me that you are working to restore everything. Give me eyes to see what you are doing and how you are using this life to teach me and shape me, as you redeem those difficult things in my life. Amen.
