Read: Psalm 63:4 “I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands”.
David chose worship before his circumstances changed and while he was still in the wilderness. He chose to praise the Lord with hands lifted high even though he was still wandering, alone in the wilderness.
I vividly recall a wilderness season during the births of my children. Both girls spent 7 days in the NICU and underwent spinal taps, MRI’s, and various tests due to concerns at birth. As a new mom, I was devastated and terrified. I was not only a brand new mom, but I was also a brand new Christian. I didn’t know many biblical details, and I did not have a single scripture verse memorized. The only thing I knew how to do was to talk to God because I knew He loved me. I talked to Him in a very raw, very real way, and I praised Him and told Him that I trusted Him. Those were the only things I knew how to do, and I realize now that this was enough.
Worship in the wilderness is so powerful because it says: “God, I trust You even when I don’t understand.” Sometimes our greatest growth happens when we praise God before we see the breakthrough.
Reflection: Is my worship dependent on my circumstances, or on God’s character?
Prayer: Jesus, teach me to worship You in every season, even while I wait.
