Read Acts 20:24
“I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”
I am not a runner, but a core memory for me was being part of a relay team in elementary school. I was an eager participant with a baton in hand! I was determined to run as fast as I could to my teammate, waiting for the baton to be passed on to them so they could sprint off on their leg of the race. It was important for me to give my very best, to encourage my teammates, and trust them to give it their all so we could win the race. I remember being so excited that my friends and I were all winners when the last person crossed the finish line!!
Being part of a relay team was the perfect fit for me. It was a combination that required me to do my best, promoted a positive, encouraging attitude, and required me to trust others to do what I couldn’t do on my own. What I lacked in endurance, I made up for in cheering on my teammates! We relied on each other, so we encouraged one another.
Sharing the Good News is a team effort, too. We are called to put forth our best effort, but are not expected to do this on our own. Jesus gives us the gift of each other and the Holy Spirit to guide us. Different gifts and roles are distributed by the Holy Spirit for the good of the entire team. God lines us up and tells us when to go and when to pass the baton. The race is not over just because we pass the baton. The race is not over until the very last person who received the baton crosses the finish line!
Ready, Set, GO!
We have all been entrusted with the baton through accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior. We are called to share the Good News! To whom are you going to pass the baton today?
