Matthew 14:24-31

Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

I can totally relate to Peter. I ask myself, “Why do I doubt?” Doubt is the opposite of belief; but my answer is not because I don’t believe. Doubt is such a mountain of distraction that my faith is reduced to the size of a mustard seed. I don’t like it. It feels uncomfortable. How do I prepare to move this mountain of doubt? By filling my heart with God’s truth one scripture at a time, one prayer at a time.

Let’s move mountains together!

Dear God,

Forgive us for our doubts and thank you for reminding us of Your truths! We are thankful that You are able to use the smallest of things to bring about great accomplishments. We trust in Your promise that You who began a good work in us will carry it out to completion. We are all a work in progress. Thank You for having patience with us and providing the encouragement that we need to come closer to You. Help us to spur one another on so that together with You we can all move mountains! Amen
