‭‭John‬ ‭21‬:‭13‬

“Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.”

The language echoes earlier moments in Jesus’ ministry. When He fed the five thousand, He likewise took bread and distributed it (John 6:11). At the Last Supper, He broke bread with His disciples (Luke 22:19). These repeated actions emphasize continuity — the same Jesus who served them before the cross now serves them after the resurrection.

Restoration confirms that Christ’s character does not change.

Hebrews 13:8 declares:

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

And Jesus served them personally. The risen Lord, possessing all authority in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18), still acted as a servant. This reflects His teaching in Mark 10:45:

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

The scene on the beach is quiet, ordinary, and deeply personal. There is no crowd, no sermon, no public miracle — just a meal shared between the Savior and His disciples.

The final image in this passage is not one of failure, but of fellowship — disciples seated around a fire, eating with the risen Christ.

It is a picture of grace coming full circle.

Something to ponder today:  Do I believe that Christ still desires personal fellowship with me, even after seasons of weakness or failure?
