“Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.””  ‭‭Luke‬ ‭19‬:‭9‬-‭10‬

After hearing Zacchaeus’ response, Jesus makes a powerful declaration: “Today salvation has come to this house… For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

With these words, Jesus reveals the deeper meaning of everything that has just taken place. The encounter with Zacchaeus is not a random moment—it is a living example of His mission.

Zacchaeus had been spiritually lost. His wealth, position, and reputation had placed him far from the life God intended. Yet Jesus sought him out personally. The Savior stopped beneath the tree, called him by name, and entered his home.

The result was not merely a pleasant meeting. Salvation came to Zacchaeus’ household, and his life began to reflect the transforming power of grace.

The statement Jesus makes here serves as one of the clearest summaries of His earthly mission. He did not come primarily to affirm the righteous or congratulate the morally successful. He came to search for those who were lost and bring them back to God.

In Zacchaeus’ story we see the entire gospel unfolding: seeking, calling, grace, repentance, and restoration.

The story ends where it began—with a man once defined by his past now defined by salvation.

And the same mission continues today. Christ still seeks the lost. He still calls people by name. And He still transforms lives when they welcome Him in.

Something to ponder today:  How might God be inviting you to participate in His mission of seeking and reaching those who are spiritually lost?
