Read Isaiah 7:14 NIV
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
Immanuel means ‘God is with us.’ Four small words that hold tremendous significance and hope. Hope, because of the grace and redemption Jesus’ coming provided. Significance lies in the fact that it reminds us we are not alone in this world. Sometimes I get caught up in the “doing” of this life. It’s busy and full to the brim. Most of the time, it is that way because I make it that way. No one forces me. I say yes to this and yes to that, and before I know it, I am caught in the “doing” and have forgotten about “being,” and I suddenly feel very alone.
We can rush past the significance of God being with us if we aren’t careful. In our heads, we know that Christmas is a time to remember that God came down to earth as the catalyst to His plan of redemption, but we miss the beauty and simplicity of the fact that He is WITH us. We are not alone. The busyness and the “doing” of life don’t change that, but only you can choose to recognize it in your life. Take time out this week from the “doing” and savor the simple beauty of being with your Savior.
