Read Psalm 19:1-6

The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.

They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
    like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens
    and makes its circuit to the other;
    nothing is deprived of its warmth.

Here in upstate New York, we find ourselves in the midst of fall! Most of the leaves have turned and are starting to cover the ground. The air is crisp…and even a bit frosty the past couple of mornings. And this afternoon, I stood at the window and watched the squirrels dart across my yard, gathering up the fallen walnuts and then scampering off to store them nearby.  It won’t be long until the ground has a coating of white, and the busyness of nature will seem to slow its pace.

The changing of the seasons always makes me stop and marvel at God’s creation. The bright sun of summer and the warm grass under bare feet need no words to express the warmth and depth of God’s love.  The tender shoots of bright green that break through the soil in spring shout of His desire to make us new – a fresh start in His love! Bright red apples, grapes on the vine, and hay bales that dot the fields every fall remind us of God’s provision in every season. Even the cold blanket of snow in winter whispers that there is a season for everything…even the hard things…but even so, God remains faithful in the stillness.

Spend some time today using the verses as a prayer of thanksgiving to God for His marvelous creation and the ways he reveals Himself to us in the world around us, with no words necessary to shout His goodness.
