Read Genesis 1:31
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
God saw all that He had made and called it good…very good actually! If we rewind the creation story to the beginning and move back through it slowly, we can see how God intentionally laid out all He was to create in an order that would sustain the life of his magnificent creation. Light came first, and then sky and waters below. From there, we have earth and then plants needed to sustain the creatures God was about to set upon the earth in the sky, in the waters below, and on the land. And finally, he crowns it all with his best creation yet – man – set with a purpose to rule over and care for it all.
The care and attention to order is amazing to me. Before God got started, there was nothing. Darkness. A void. Chaos. And with just a word spoken by God, order and control appear!
My guess is that many of you are not that different from me. And when I look around at my world, things often feel out of control. When I feel that way, I work really hard to gain or maintain control. Which can often feel messy, painful, elusive, and just plain exhausting. Feeling out of control can lead to a lot of different emotions like fear or anger. And when emotions swell inside of us, we have 2 choices. We can freak out…or we can respond in faith.
Freaking out might be understandable. But faith is more reliable.
Faith is more reliable because all of creation proves God’s desire and His ability to be in control when everything feels out of control. He didn’t have to create our world – He wanted to. He created it from nothing and spoke it into existence out of disorder and darkness, bringing it under His control. And all of that was an act of love for you and for me. As we look around us at all that God has created, it reveals to us the one who is actually in control and gives us understanding and a reason to respond in faith when things feel out of control.
