Each week of devotions throughout our Live Worthy series on Ephesians will be spent on a single chapter. We encourage you to re-read the chapter each day. Additionally, we will focus on a few key verses each day. This week, we will focus on chapter 6 of Ephesians
Read Ephesians 6
Read: Ephesians 6:1-4 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first commandment with a promise—’so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’ Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”
This passage begins with a foundational principle of a healthy society: the family. Paul reminds children that honoring their parents is not just a good idea, but a command from God that comes with a promise of blessing. This honor isn’t limited to childhood; it’s a lifelong attitude of respect and care. For parents, there’s a corresponding call to raise their children with love and grace, avoiding harshness and instead guiding them in the ways of the Lord. Today, let’s reflect on our family relationships and how we can better honor one another.
Pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for my family. Help me to honor my parents and treat my children with the love and grace you have shown me. Strengthen our family bonds and guide us in your truth. Amen.
