Daily Devotionals

We’ve spent each day this week talking about the influence people can have in our lives.

From the wisdom and love of Jonathan, Ruth and Nathan, to the betrayal of Delilah and the pressure of the crowds. We have discussed the wonderful blessings and terrible consequences that come along with the people we choose to be with.

Looking back at our lives, I’m sure we can all think of examples of situations and relationships from great to not-so-great.

It comes down to this: Who are you choosing to do life with and who are you listening to?

As Christians, we believe that our relationship with Jesus is the most important relationship we will ever have.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬

Our foundational relationship with Jesus sets the table of fellowship, both with God and his children.

“When we accept Christ we enter into three new relationships: (1) We enter into a new relationship with God. The judge becomes the father; the distant becomes the near; strangeness becomes intimacy and fear becomes love. (2) We enter into a new relationship with our fellow men.(3) We enter into a new relationship with ourselves. Weakness becomes strength; frustration becomes achievement; and tension becomes peace.”  William Barclay

And what is God’s expectation for believers and their relationships?

The book of Hebrews gives us a great yardstick:

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”  ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

  • Spur one another on toward love and good deeds
  • Meet together
  • Encourage each other

Something to think and pray about today:

Do I believe Jesus is the most important relationship in my life? (Why or why not?)

Who am I choosing to spend my time with now who is encouraging my walk with Jesus?

How could I encourage the people in my life and spur them on toward love and good deeds?
