Read: Psalm 32:3-5 NRSV

 While I kept silence, my body wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.

For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
    my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you,
    and I did not hide my iniquity;
I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’,
    and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Sometimes mourning is deeply personal—it flows from conviction of our own sin. David experienced the heavy silence of unconfessed guilt, but also the joy of forgiveness. Mourning over sin is part of being made whole, for through repentance, we receive grace and are drawn closer to God.

Pray: Lord, give me a heart that grieves over my sin. Lead me to confession, and restore to me the joy of Your salvation.
