This week we will focus on preparing our hearts for our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Each day we will focus on an aspect of prayer. We will ask God to soften our hearts and our minds to meet with Him and hear from Him during the 21 days we will spend in prayer together as a church.
Read Ephesians 6:18 NIV
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
As my kids have gotten older, I’ve become more and more convicted about how weak my prayer life is. Oh I’ll pray at Bible studies, in church and when called to do it for others or during other structured times – but my personal prayer life is, well, embarrassing.
A while back I asked for God’s help to help me build a better daily personal prayer habit.
Not long after making that plea, I was scrolling on Instagram and I came across an ad for a cool bracelet with a cross on it. Some would say “The Algorithm” decided that because I follow some accounts that are Christian, I should get Christian jewelry ads. Maybe, but… so what? We know God uses all things!
Anyway, I bought the bracelet and decided that every day when I put it on, I would pray for my wife, kids and others in my life. The act of putting that bracelet on as a trigger, a reminder to pray, has been a great kick start to a more regular, personal, dedicated prayer time.
Obviously you don’t have to scroll social media or buy anything to build prayer into your life.
Maybe prayer is second nature to you. That’s awesome!
If, like me, you have a desire to build a better prayer life, ask God for help!
I pray for you that you will find a way to set aside time each day for prayer, however you remember. If/when that method stops working, switch it up!
“Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees.” – Corrie Ten Boom
What things have you done, or what have you heard about how others have built prayer time into their daily lives?
