Read: 2 Corinthians 9:9 NLT

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

Security = money, or so we think. It makes sense. We need money to have a place to live and to feed and clothe ourselves. Why wouldn’t we feel secure with money and insecure without? Although it is true that money is a necessity, it is not a guarantee. Its presence does not really give us true security. We have heard stories of those who have won the lottery only to be broke in the end. Or the wealthy who cannot find happiness. Alternatively, we hear stories of people losing everything in weather events, only to have their needs met. There is the key – if left to us to determine what our needs are, we will never be secure with any amount of money. We must first recognize that our needs are only met by God.

When God freed the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt, they faced hardship in their travels. They were thirsty and hungry and doubted God would provide for their needs. Their skepticism was so great, they even asked why God didn’t just kill them while they were slaves in Egypt. When God did provide for their needs, He promised meat and bread (called Manna) daily as well as instruction on how much to eat in the morning and evening. Despite God’s promise for their needs, the Israelites felt more secure determining their own needs and saved food into the next day, afraid more wouldn’t come. The next morning, they woke to their reserves being spoiled. (ref Exodus 15:22-1)}.

When we allow God to determine and provide for our needs, we will see our security no longer depends on money. That process is a journey. We are conditioned in society to provide for ourselves. However, when we look to God for our needs, He will bless us with a security that money cannot buy.
