Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
I have 3 beautiful granddaughters all under the age of 3. Two of them are in that imitation stage that toddlers go through and it is such a joy to watch – although their mothers may not think so all the time. It is so obvious that they are trying hard to imitate their moms and dads and other special loved ones in the words they choose to use and in their gestures and mannerisms. As humans, we do that pretty naturally as we grow.
As children we don’t know how exactly to interact with the world around us, so we look to those we trust and love to point us in the right direction by imitating the things we see them do and say.
As children of God – He simply wants us to do the same. To love like He loves. To care like He cares. To forgive the way He forgives. To live in relationship with others as we can live in relationship to Him. So go ahead and copy your heavenly Father – he won’t steer you wrong and He will show you a way to live that honors Him and brings Him joy – and shows the rest of the world what He looks like.
