John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.“
Recently I was sorting through boxes filled with old memories and I found a tattered, stapled copy of the “The Song Book” we used 40 years ago in my youth group at Brighton Presbyterian Church in Rochester, New York.
As I was leafing through the pages, I found one song that I always thought was beautiful called “Shalom” and I couldn’t think of a better meditation on John 14:27 than the lyrics of that song:
Chorus:
Peace I leave with you my friends.
Shalom, my peace, in all you do.
Peace I leave with you my friends
I give to you so you can give to others too.
To share His love is why I came
To show His kindness to all men
Go now and do the same
Until I come again
Take my hands and be at peace
The Spirit of our love I send
And with this love you will be free
Until I come again
With this love all men will know
That loneliness is at an end
Rejoice my brothers, though I go
For I will come again.
What does the peace of Jesus mean to you?
