1 John 1:9: ”If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.“
If we believe that Jesus is the “amen” to the promises of God, we then need to embrace the forgiveness that Jesus promises to us.
Asking for forgiveness can be very painful. We’ve either done or said things that we are ashamed of, or we believed the lies that have been drilled into our heads by the world. We may have even suffered the consequences of our actions that can’t be reversed here on earth. We may be punishing ourselves.
I love what AW Tozer says in his sermon “God Has a Remedy”:
“God knows that sin is the dark shadow standing between Him and His highest creation, man. God is more willing to remove that shadow than we are to have it removed! He wants to forgive and that desire is a part of God’s character. In the sacrificial death of a lamb in the Old Testament, God was telling us that one day a perfect Lamb would come to actually take away sin. That is how and why God forgives sin now. In John’s words: “We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 2:1-2a).”
From the NIV version of 1 John 2:1-2: ”…we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.“
Forgiveness is much easier written or talked about than it can be accepted.
Jesus has promised it to you. What’s stopping you from accepting it?
PRAY: Spend some time in prayer meditating on Jesus’ Promise of Forgiveness.
