My oldest son has two words tattooed on each of his biceps: “Family” and “First.” When he flexes his muscles, people know what is of most importance to him. He believes in Family First. He lives this. He raises his arms in a willingness to “fight” for his family.
He is in law enforcement and he sees a lot of families – but, sadly, most families at their worst. He tries his best to defuse arguments and tame ugly tempers and bring peace. His job is to protect and to serve, putting his own life on the line.
My son is part of a larger “family.” He refers to his co-workers as partners. He feels a sense of family and belonging amongst the force which has been referred to as a “brotherhood.” My son has informed me on more than one occasion that he would “take a bullet” for “that guy”(when referring to one of his “brothers”). Although this makes my heart sink and causes me to gasp, I am also very proud of his commitment and his willingness to fight for his “family”! I am reminded of John 15:13 “there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends,” when I think about my son’s attitude and dedication.
On nights, when my son is out and about, protecting and serving, I trust that the Lord is with him. I choose to fight for him and his law enforcement family through prayer and petition every night. I pray for peace amongst families and a more loving, kind world. I know there is so much beyond my control, so I don’t flex my muscles, I get on my knees!
Please join me in prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Word and the reminders You give on how to live out our lives. Thank You for the beloved sons and daughters all over the world. Please provide extra protection over those in law enforcement. We pray for Your protection over each one of them as they go out into this troubled world, risking their lives. Lord, be with them. Protect them. Be with the families they encounter. Help them to bring peace, love and understanding to difficult situations. Guide them to do what is right and act according to Your commands. Father, help us all to fight for those we love and hold dearly with a willingness to lay down our own lives for our friends. We trust in Your greater plan.
Let Thy Will be done, Amen
