Read James 2:8-10 NIV

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

Sin is sin – no matter how we look at it or what it is. But as humans we sometimes tend to categorize sin  – we give it grades of severity and then try to place ourselves somewhere on a sliding scale of how we feel we are doing in the sin category. But today’s verses bring us back to truth. There is no scale.  There is no, “just sinning a little.” There is sin or there is no sin – guilty or not guilty. No caveats or exceptions.

Ask God to examine your heart today and open your eyes to sin in your life that you haven’t recognized as sin – places where you haven’t surrendered to loving others like He loves. May God change the attitudes of our hearts and make us all more like Him.
